Response to Lead Blog #5

I love how Nikoleta used vines for her lead blog post. Although I was not a vine expert at the time when vine was popular, nor am I now, I can still appreciate the classics. I love how the phenomenon of vine started when vine ultimately died. There are certain groups of individuals who can have entire conversations with only using vines, which leaves anyone who does not understand the vine culture in a state of confusion, but inherently becomes funny. Most vine experts of our generation would love to show any individual their favorite vine at any given moment. I also enjoyed reading the part of Nikoleta’s blog post where she described how successful some viners have become due to their short fame on the app. It remains incredible that so many individuals in today’s age used this small green app to launch their entire life, some without even knowing it. Although vine is undoubtedly hilarious so are the spin offs of vines. The success that Demetrius Harmon and Angelo Zeigler have had due to vine is incredible. Although I had never heard of the Youtube videos that they had created, when I sat down to watch them I found myself laughing out loud. The incongruity of the videos makes them hilarious. In particular I enjoyed The First Time Someone Had a Kid. The entire concept is incongruence because nobody really knows what it was when the first woman gave birth, so all of the commotion that was created throughout the video was humorous. I liked how there were only two characters who played multiple roles as well. The incongruity of the entire video was so funny because who actually thinks of filming a video like that. I really enjoyed reading Nikoleta’s blog post because when I hear about vines I always wish that I had been into them when I was younger because vine is a culture in itself.

  1. I also enjoyed Nikoleta's blog post and I agree that the incongruity theory is what makes the videos so funny. I enjoyed your point about vine being a culture because you hear vine references every day and you have to know what they are or you will be "uncultured."

  2. I enjoyed Nikoleta's blog post as well. I also agree with you on how the incongruity theory is one of the main theories that really make the vines funny and stand out. I also would agree with you on how the video The First Time Someone Had a Kids is very funny and really portrays a humorous aspect.

  3. I also found it fascinating how many people became famous over Vine. It's crazy to think how simple seven second videos created a whole career for some people.

  4. It occurs to me that the videos are not truly vines but that they capture something of vine humor. What is the essence of that humor?
