Response to Lead Blog #8
The first time that someone asked me to go see the movie Deadpool I was apprehensive. Then I learned that Ryan Reynolds played the main character, Deadpool, and I was no longer as apprehensive. I’m all about action movies, but I would take a chick flick over action any day. Although I was apprehensive to see the movie at the beginning, once I got into the movie I could not stop laughing. It was nice to see a superhero movie integrate humor throughout the duration of the scenes. Usually there is only one specific scene that is funny in superhero movies, but Deadpool breaks that stereotype. I really enjoyed Katiemarie’s blog post over the different themes that run throughout the movie. I particularly liked how she discussed the incongruity in Deadpool. I thought the movie was well rounded with a good spread of incongruity throughout. The part of Deadpool that I really enjoy, that Katiemarie also discussed, was how Deadpool’s character uses the camera to connect with the viewers. He breaks the typical usage of a the film crew when he personally talks to the audience. There are a handful of times throughout the movie where Deadpool is caught up in a dramatic fight or conflict, and everything just stops. When the scene stops that’s when Deadpool drops his comical line that leaves the audience in laughter. The elements of benign violation also were present in the movie. There are some aspects of Deadpool that I also really enjoyed that Katiemarie chose to use in her blog post. The part of the movie where Deadpool is singing and coloring on top of a bridge was incongruous. He is supposed to be this tough superhero who saves people, but then again Deadpool is just a normal human who enjoys coloring and sometimes acting like a child. I love every aspect of this movie, and I’m so happy that I ended up watching it.
Do you think that it being a funny action movie made you like it more, in comparison with other actions movies? Does humor make any movie more approachable for those who aren't usually fans of the genre?
