Response to Lead Blog #11
I have never seen or heard of the Jennifer's Body, but I can relate to it because I have seen the iconic movie Mean Girls. I think that the storyline that Lola explained in her blog post was very intriguing. The idea of a typical high school mean girl is everything that Jennifer embodies, and the idea of a a high school mean girl is still relevant to many of us because we are not even a year out of high school. When reading Lola’s blog post I’m sure that every one of us had that particular girl come into our minds that reminds us slightly of Jennifer. The movie is such a relatable movie especially for our ages. I found it interesting that Lola talked about the benign violation theory because Jennifer seemed to not always have a filter on what she was saying. The benign violation theory is all about not coming off too offensive, but still taking a dig at someone, and with Jennifer's comment to Chip she definitely accomplished that. The extra aspect of Jennifer’s Body that differed from Mean Girls was the fact that Jennifer actually acted on her intensely mean tendencies by committing murder. Usually a mean girl in high school says comments that relate to begin violation because they themselves are insecure, but that did not seem to be the case with Jennifer. Jennifer seemed to actually be ruthless, and although I have never seen the movie I can tell that Jennifer had a different kind of edge or motive to her mean tendencies than one of the girls from Mean Girls. I can also tell that the movie was suppose to be comical due to incongruity and benign violation, and Jennifer definitely seemed to accomplish that throughout the movie.
Jennifer's Body is indeed very similar to Mean Girls. Jennifer is definitely a character that makes fun of Regina George's obnoxious personality.
ReplyDeleteWhat do you think reliability means in this context?
ReplyDeleteI thought it was interesting how you pointed out that mean girls usually behave that way because they are insecure, but Jennifer is truly ruthless and had a different edge to her. However, I feel like underneath all of her violence, she is still just as insecure as everyone else.
